#Artistresidency Pierre Pauze at Es Baluard
Part of Pierre Pauze‘s (Meudon, 1990) project was placed at Es Baluard Museum‘s observatory. The observatory was transformed by Pierre Pauze into a laboratory of water experiments and used as place for the primed process, which helps him to establish the symbolic direction of the complete research. By using various elements (electromagnetic light, sound vibrations…) Pierre Pauze allowed water to transmit information. The artist recreates a device which invites the public to become aware of these water’ faculties in an ethereal way: by vibratory fields generated by their feelings and their intentions. The place was surrounded by different objects and materials, like computers, Ethernet cables and data centre components, which served to the computing transmission of data and were placed around the packaging of water. Then, a series of experiments were made with “different water profiles” in order to improve different transmissions.
Another important part of the project was placed at the aljub of Es Baluard, a place that in the past was used to collect the used water to provide the citizens of Palma de Mallorca. Understanding the aljub as a hard disk of water’ faculties and memories, The Spur’s artist transformed this space into a symbolic “aquatic data centre” able to be in charge of Palma’s memories. In this way, Pierre Pauze’s installation in the aljub is a metaphoric presentation of this memory trace of the city now stored in a special “data centre” of “wet memories” closed and protected.
The «Water Memory» Project
In «Water memory» Pierre Pauze tries to compose an aesthetics which puts in relation various actors connected to the world of the water. The artist tries to connect scientists’ facts with ancestral traditions that deal with water and rituals in order to create a symbolism of the water through ages and cultures. The aim is to show that since the origins of the water there was an interface between the sky and the earth, entering into the essentials of the ground life and the cosmos.
The web’s networking replays the natural plan of the water’s cycle by the creation of information and networks under various forms. The Cloud is the transposition of the natural cloud, which is created by evaporated information in the sky of the Data Centre, where satellites revolve into the wind of digital novelties. Precipitation under rainy forms of information flood our screens; real brooks of images which allow the growth of the trees of our social links. They branch spread on the canvas networks of Web, letting decorate with flowers relations of various natures, which stream until sources of the matrix, to be engraved on rocks sculptured by our consciousnesses, or to be evaporated again into the data.
